What do you think about using a outdoor area rugs to decorate a bathroom? I don't want to carpet my bathroom that would be too much. But today the outdoor rugs that used to be boring come in some beautiful designs, and of course they are made to stand up to moisture. Do you think this is a good idea?, and if not Why so. londongate11 replied: "Thats a great idea"
Lydia replied: "Thinking "outside the box" is great. It doesn't matter where the rugs are meant to go originally. What matters if they are appropriate for where you want to put them. Be sure they can be hosed off or washed--in case somebody tosses their cookies, the toilet overflows, etc. They may resist water, but your house is warmer than outside, so find out if they may encourage mold or mildew. Otherwise, go for it."
cam2u replied: "Here's (a portion of) an interesting article :
"Vinyl and linoleum have not been considered stylish since the 1940's but carpeting has attained a certain, sometimes misguided popularity. Although carpets are warm, thick, soft underfoot and ideal for making a room seem cozy and luxurious, keep in mind that they are generally unsuitable for high-traffic areas of children's bathrooms because they are difficult to clean and can easily become waterlogged. If you do choose carpeting, keep in mind that it should be loose-laid so that it can be removed for cleaning. (Also remember that special rubber-backed bathroom carpeting is available)."
I guess I'd be most concerned about what will be under the carpeting. Is it being stripped to put in the carpet or will it go right over the vinyl or whatever? (Every toilet overflows at some point or another.) Multiply water on the floor problems by the number and ages of the people using it.
If you can do it, it can look absolutely great!"
danamanamoo replied: "great I Idea"
Ashwini M replied: "Try Bamboo rugs they are being used alot in bathrooms these days. You can buy some at Nilima Rugs" How can I keep my outdoor rug from folding over due to wind? My front porch gets a lot of wind and so the rugs I put in front of the door usually end up blown into the corner of my porch where it can't be used and doesn't look attractive. Is there any solution that won't damage the cement on the porch? Pip replied: "Double sided tape - you can get it at a craft store"
Rye replied: "put a chair on the rug somewhere perhaps"
Ariel L replied: "yes
just use something to hold it down that will look prettty
you could get a nice chair or rocking chair for your porch and just put it on top of the mat
or a two pots with plants in them
these things are sure to hold the little carpet down
if you don't like either of those i suggest getting a heavier outdoor rug"
oldknowitall replied: "Put something heavy on it."
Lady D replied: "You could permanently attach the rug to the porch with a staple gun, but if you want something a little easier to remove, you should simply weigh down the corners with small stone statues."
dawnb replied: "Make sure you are buying rugs specifically for the outdoors. They are usually heavy sisal, cast iron or a heavy rubber and don't move. We are in a very windy area and my heavy sisal has never left the porch."
Christy H replied: "double sided velcro put one strip on the porch and the other on the rug" How do I get a cat to stop peeing on my outdoor rug? It's a wild, outdoor cat that insists on using my door mat for a bathroom. I don't want to eliminate the rug so is there anything I can put down that will keep it away? countryangel679 replied: "You might want to think of having the rug cleaned. A cat usually keeps going back to the same spot to pee because they have sensitive noses and if they smell it then for some reason they like to use that same spot again.
Otherwise, try orange peel or something citrus."
TurboProp replied: "Sprinkle some very fine ground pepper around the mat along with an area beyond the mat. It works to stop cats from digging in plants."
Sue C replied: "Contact the city or a local feral cat organization about trapping the cat. If it belongs to a neighbor, they are responsible for keeping it contained if it is a nuisance to others."
sheidu5 replied: "There is such thing as a motion activated sprinkler."
angelala31 replied: "Do you have a female cat in your home that isn't spayed?
If that's the case, you may want to get your cat spayed/or nuetered, that could be the reason this wild cat is "spraying" near your door." What is the best way to hang a outdoor rug on a concrete wall.? It is so pretty I decided to hang it instead of putting it on the patio floor. It's 2'7x4'11.
Yes, it is outside. I have a tropical/tuscan feel to my patio decor. dorton girl replied: "I hope the wall is outside.? You get some concrete screws and or nails. I would attach hangers to each corner and hang them on the screws.."
Romeo replied: "Don't try driving nails with your hammer, because you might hurt yourself or chip out a chunk of the concrete or brick.
You will need a hammer drill to drill a neat clean hole for the masonry anchors. Get a masonry hammer-drill bit that is the same diameter as the masonry anchor which you will be using. The hammer drill can be rented from Loews, Home Depot or various tool rental places. The hammer drill will drill through the concrete or brick like cutting through butter. Once you have drilled the holes and set the anchors, you can fasten your rug with screws into the anchors." What exactly is an indoor outdoor rug? Does this mean that it is not as thick or soft as an indoor only rug or??? kikio replied: "Indoor/outdoor carpet is basically almost commercial grade. It is low pile, like berber so that way it does not fall apart upon elements outside. It will not be thick and soft like regular pile carpet. It will last longer tho."
roeskats replied: "It means that it can be used for both indoors and outdoors."
LawComm replied: "Usually it's quite a bit rougher.. and tougher. I use mine for in front of the door. So people can wipe their feet on it."
OogaBooga replied: "It's a rug that is versatile, meaning it can be used both inside and outside.
It is usually not quite as thick and soft as an indoor rug, but it's not hard or prickly like an outdoor rug."
yowza replied: "Indoor/Outdoor Rugs offer the look and texture of natural fiber (like jute or sisal rugs), but these area rugs are woven from finely spun synthetic matieral for lasting wear. They are quick drying, non-fading, and resist stains and mildew. To speak to your question, the are *not* as thick or as soft as a wool area rug. But they're great for kids' rooms where they might get spills, and they add lots of color & interest to decks & patios."
dawnb replied: "The new rugs are made of polypropylene. I bought one from Frontgate (catalog) for my screened porch and it was beautifully soft. They do not fade from the sun and only need to be hosed off to clean. Because these new blends are so soft and the patterns copy more expensive wools, they are great for high traffic areas indoors as well. I am putting two of them in my new house." I'm looking for an outdoor rug to go on my porch? I am fixing up my front porch and I would like a rug at least 5x6 to go in front of the Glider I just bought. I do not want anything like Jute. Where can I look and what exactly do I look for... I really want something I can walk on barefoot and not have it be so rough it hurts my feet. Thanks rlbendele1 replied: "There are a lot of new rugs this year for outdoor use. Most 5x8 rugs are $99 to $120. The newest are from Nourison, and Momeni rugs. Both are great looking. Both are made for outside use, both are soft to the touch. Nourison calls theirs Seasons. Momeni calls theirs lanai."
lynn c replied: "Go to Domestication's.com They have a big selection and are reasonably priced." i have a indoor outdoor rug in my basement? can i lay another rug over it, no padding just the rug, like glue it onto it some how, thanks The ReDesign Diva replied: "Although it isn't the best method to use, a carpet can be installed over another one provided the first has no detached cushioned backing. If the cushion is separate you may be able to remove the old carpet and reuse the existing cushion. If the first carpet is glued down you may cut it back around the perimeter, install tack strip (which you can buy at carpet stores) and stretch a new carpet over the old one. YOU CANNOT GLUE ONE CARPET OVER ANOTHER. And remember that whatever you cover up could be a bad idea... I'm thinking spills, odors, etc. I highly suggest you have the carpet cleaned before covering it with another."
Rajni P replied: "http://www.jaipurrugsco.com/rugs-history.html" indoor/outdoor rug? i have a old indoor/outdoor rug in my basement with no padding, im looking to put a new one down, how do i remove the old one, and how do i put a new one down and how much would a 1000 square foot one cost Butterfly Lover replied: "cut it into managable size pieces with a carpet knife, roll it up and carry it out.
There are so many choices available it is impossible to give you a price."
junknstuffcollector replied: "I'm assuming your current rug is glued to the floor. If so, you'll have to find a loose section or corner and start pulling it up. If it is rubber backed, the backing will come off in chunks. It's a mess to clean up, you'll have to scrape it off. To make life easier for yourself, could you put the new carpeting over the old current one? When you go looking for new carpeting, go to a reputable carpet store and ask the clerk what to do.
He/she should be able to tell you how to remove the old, or if you can put new on top of old, how to install a new carpet, and the cost. Shop around for the best deal. Do-it-yourself stores, like Home Depot or Lowe's are good resources. The cost of the new carpet depends alot on quality and fiber content, type of backing, etc. Like I said, shop around before making the right decision for you." |
